Eldee Walter Hengst

Eldee Hengst, of Thorndale, Texas, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, January 12th, 2024, at the age of 92.

Eldee was born on August 31, 1931, to his parents, Alma (Niemtschk) and Oscar Hengst, and grew up surrounded by the love of three older brothers, two older sisters, and one younger sister. He earned his GED certificate and proudly served in the Army, specializing in radio repair during his time from 1954 to 1956, before transferring to the Army Reserve. Eldee married the love of his life, Dolores Patschke, and together they were blessed with two daughters.

A man of strong faith, Eldee dedicated his time to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School and cared for the church cemetery for many years. He was also a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League.  Alongside his community service, he owned a tire shop in Thorndale. Eldee found joy in the simple pleasures of life, enjoying reading, watching comedy shows, and gathering with friends and family to play dominoes.

Eldee is preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Oscar, and his beloved daughter, Brenda, who departed at the tender age of 15; his brothers, Roy, Clarence, Louis; and sisters, Bernice, Gladys, Alice. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dolores; daughter, Janet Ryon; son-in-law, Richard Ryon; grandson, Joshua Ryon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation to celebrate Eldee's life will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, followed by a heartfelt funeral service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the St. Paul Lutheran General Fund or the "Build the Vision" Fund.
