Edward J. Betak

June 6, 1942 — May 9, 2022

Edward John Betak, 79, of Thorndale, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 9 th , 2022.

Edward was born on June 6, 1942, in Taylor, Texas to Lee and Lucy Betak. On June 5, 1965, he married Sharon Melde, and they shared 56 wonderful years together. They were blessed with three sons, Bo, Dean and Lance, and one daughter, Misty.

Edward graduated from Thrall High School in 1961. He worked at ALCOA and retired from there after 38 years.

He treasured his family and was always happy when they came to visit. He especially enjoyed our family gathering every Sunday afternoon. Edward also looked forward to Thursday nights, when we would gather at Paul Pokorny’s house to visit and play dominoes. For many years, straight dominoes were also played at Monday Night Football with Floyd Zuehlke, Sr. Edward enjoyed a good game of 42 anywhere he could find it.

Going to his children’s, then grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities was something he always looked forward to. He almost never missed a game. For twenty years you could find him on the sideline keeping stats and cheering on his beloved Bulldogs.

Our yearly trips to Port Aransas were always fun-filled family time. Whether we were fishing, playing putt-putt, throwing washers, playing games in the room, or hanging out at the beach and pool, we cherish all the memories we made together.

Edward was outgoing and always the life of the party. He was a cheerful guy with a big heart, and a good friend to so many.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lucy Betak; brothers, Charlie, James and Roy; and In-Laws, Gilbert and Frances Melde.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sharon; sons, Bo, Dean (Lori), and Lance (Crispin); and daughter, Misty (Scott) Zieschang; Grandchildren, Taryne, Bradley, Allison, Chance, and Patrick; brother, Ray (Gloria) Betak; Sisters-In-Law, Fay Betak and Marge Betak; as well as numerous other family members and loved ones.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 16, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.
