Services for Edna Ruth Medart Cowan, 98, a long-time resident of Taylor, Texas will be handled by Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas.

Mrs. Cowan died Monday, October 2, 2017 at Park Place Manor Nursing Home in Belton, Texas.

She was born March 7, 1919 to Spencer and Lorena Miller Medart in Killeen, Texas.  She graduated from Killeen High School in 1936.  She married Leroy Dee Cowan on March 5, 1939.  They farmed in Bartlett, Texas until the mid 50’s when they moved to Taylor.  They owned Cowan’s Home Decorating Supply in Taylor, Texas.  She was also a bookkeeper for Taylor Bedding from 1958 until her retirement in 1984.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Taylor, Texas.  She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Chapter 572 Eastern Star, Taylor, Texas.  She was known for her beautiful flowers and well-kept yard which she cared for as a labor of love.

Mrs. Cowan was preceded in death by her parents, Spencer and Lorena Medart, and her husband, Leroy Cowan.  She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Providence Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, October 5, 2017.  Services will be conducted by SelaFinau, Minister of the First United Methodist Church of Taylor, Texas at 1:30 on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd. N.W. , Taylor, Texas.  Burial will follow in the Killeen City Cemetery, 2408 East Rancier, Killeen, Texas.
