Dorothy Ann Wellington

Dorothy Ann Wellington was born November 11, 1949 in Lamb County, Tx to Alvin Davis Mitchell and Janie Mae Allen Mitchell. She was the fourth born of ten children.

She married Jodie Wellington on July 6, 1966. To this union were born four children.  Jodie Van Wellington, Judy Wellington, Jason Wellington, and Joann Wellington.

She was a very loving and attentive mom. She devoted her life to her children.

Growing up Dorothy attended Aycock School in Rockdale, Tx.  She received a lot of achievement awards as a student.

Dorothy was baptized at an early age and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Thorndale, Tx. She was one of the original five girls who made up the first Mt. Zion Choir, started by Mrs. Idella Davis. They were well known for their marching  to their theme song Step By Step Around the Throne. As an adult her family lived in different cities until finally settling in Round Rock, Tx. There she united with Sweet Home Baptist Church under the Leadership of A.W.A Mays at the time.

Dorothy was a devoted worker for Safeway and HEB for several years as one of the best Meat-Cutters in the area.  She later worked for Wal-Mart until her retirement. Dorothy was well respected by her co-workers.  She was greatly concerned about her family, especially when the weather was bad.  She would call and check on her siblings to make sure they were safe.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her oldest son Jody Van Wellington, both her parents, Alvin D. Mitchell and Janie M. A. Mitchell. One sister Janie Odell Beck and one brother Michael Mitchell.

She is survived by her children Judy Wellington, Jason Wellington, and Joann Wellington all of Round Rock, Tx. Her siblings Alvin James Mitchell(Ruby) of Austin, Tx., Kathleen Harris of Austin, TX., Floyd Lee Mitchell of Cameron, Tx., David Wayne Mitchell of Temple, Tx., Janie Ray House of Rockdale, Tx., Ronald Dewayne Mitchell and Mark Mitchell of Thorndale, Tx.

Her Uncles, Aunts, Nephews, Nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.
