Doris Roznovak

January 8, 1927 — March 11, 2021

Doris came into this world 94 years ago weighing a 3 ½ pounds and from that moment on proved what a strong woman she was. She was a proud 1945 Graduate of THS and played the leading female character in her Senior Play.  She worked for many years at Southwestern Bell winning many awards for her service and unselfish deeds.  Not only did Doris assist with normal job duties but handled emergency situations as we now know as 911 calls.  As her career advanced, she became Chief Operator.  Doris retired from Southwestern Bell when Southwestern Bell was moved to Austin, but that did not stop her for hard work.  She opened a home day care during the winter months, and during the summer, she was manager of the Taylor City Swimming Pool for 39 years.  When she closed her Day care, she went to work for Seventh Street Day Care, St. Paul Day Care, Grandma’s House, and First Baptist Mother’s Day out Program.  Doris was also the director of the TISD Teen Mom Program from 1991-1994.

Doris was born again in Christ on December 31, 1973 and loved singing in the choir at First Baptist Church as well as participating in many Bible Studies.  Doris was not only activein all her children lives, but many others as well.  Both her homes on Twelfth St and Fowzer were the stopping place for children going to and from school.  Her door was always open.  Many would run to Spencer Grocery to get Doris some Coca Cola’s, of course charging it to Doris, come back to the house, sing songs, play games, eat what they could find but always making sure she had a Coca Cola.  She made sure they got to the Duck football games, caroling during the Christmas holidays, and did everything she could to make school parties the best. Doris was also known for her beautiful needlework that she loved sharing. When she worked at Mother’s Day out, she came to know and love many more children who always called her Me Maw.

Doris is survived by her children, Sharon Mallett, Pat Helbert (Larry), Jesse Guthrie Jr, and Stayci Burris (Terry). Her Grandchildren were the love of her life - Brett Helbert (Jennie),Darren Helbert (Krysten), Adam Dubois (Faith), Adrian Foster(Jarath), Jesse Guthrie III, and Keary Burris.   12 GreatGrandchildren: Rayna O Neal, Chaynee Helbert, Chase Morgan, Kaylee and Kamryn Helbert, Jayla, Gage and Tenley Foster, Madison, Kayley, Gabriella, and Alex Dubois.

Doris is preceded in death by her first husband Jesse Guthrie, and Billy Roznovak, Parents H. A.  & Maude Bryan, sisters Aileen Roderick, Ruby Ruth Sledge, and Dorothy Wanke.

Pall bearers will be Brett Helbert, Darren Helbert, Chase Morgan, Terry Burris, Billy Carlson, and Jack Jordan.

There are so many funny and heartwarming Me Maw stories because Me Maw touched so many lives.  Even to the last day, she informed her favorite person Scottie at Will O Bell, they are going to miss her, but she is going home.

Thanks to the staff at Will O Bell, Bartlett Dr. Nathan Cohen, and Linda Ochoa for taking such good care of Mom our Me Maw.
