Donald Jay Hughes, 85, of Taylor, passed away at Scott and White Round Rock on October 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving daughters.
Don was born on January 8, 1937, in Taylor, Texas to James and Selena Hughes. Don married his wife Bondella “Bonnie” Hughes on December 7, 1961, in Topeka, Kansas. After 24 years in the US Air Force, Don retired to his hometown of Taylor, Texas with his wife and daughters; Brenda, Kim, and Donna. After returning to civilian life, Don worked for two years at Westinghouse in Round Rock, and 18 years at Intercraft Industries Corporation in Taylor, before retiring permanently to work full time supporting his grandchildren in their athletic, academic, and musical endeavors. Don is remembered as a loving, friendly, and dedicated father, grandfather, husband, and friend. He was a devout member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylor who loved his Lord and his family.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, his parents, and his brother, James.
He is survived by his sister, Floreen Langston of Tomball; daughters, Brenda Hazelwood of Cedar Park, Kim Townsend (Byron) of Taylor, Donna Glover (Randy) of Hutto; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews in Houston, and his stepchildren and grand stepchildren in Colorado and Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Taylor.
A visitation is to be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd NW, Taylor.
Funeral Services are to be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 14, 2022 at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd NW, Taylor, with burial to follow directly after at Taylor City Cemetery.
