David W Betak

David Wayne Betak, age 64, passed away peacefully at his home on April 9, 2022. David was born on August 30, 1957 in Taylor, Texas to Charlie and Mary (Svehlak) Betak. He attended Taylor High School before joining the United States Navy in 1976 where he courageously served our country until 1980, when he was honorably discharged. He was employed with Taylor ISD as a Master Electrician until retirement. After retirement, David could be found at West End Café, a family-owned business where he helped manage and run the BBQ pit. David found refuge in the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 20 years where he heroically volunteered in the community.

David was a hardworking, simple man who loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed playing volleyball on the weekends at Lake Granger, annual beach trips, gambling at the casinos and having drinks with friends and family. He touched many lives with his generosity, cheer, and passion for life. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his son Lee Betak (Carolina) of Bastrop and grandsons Chris and Corey Betak. He is also survived by his brother Charlie Betak (Linda) of Taylor, sister Carolyn Betak of Taylor, nephew Travis (Jennifer) Betak of Salado, and niece Tracy (Jeff) Scaparra of Leander.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with Rosary recited at 7:00 PM at Providence Funeral Home.  Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 20 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor followed by burial in the Taylor City Cemetery.  A reception will be held at the SPJST Hall in Taylor following burial services.

Pallbearers will be Bennie Cervenka, Jason Cervenka, Travis Betak, Jeff Scaparra, Trey Johle, Jason Vrana, Cory Littlepage and James Betak.

Honorary pallbearers are James Svehlak, Larry Gene Svehlak, Johnny Thonig, Joey Susan, Chad Cervenka and Edward Betak.
