Danora “Donnie” Lee Zimmerhanzel McLaughlin, age 89, of Taylor passed away Sept. 3, 2021.
Donnie was born in Taylor on Aug. 12, 1932 to Daniel Joseph Zimmerhanzel and Lenora Lee (Kovar) Zimmerhanzel and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1949 as co-valedictorian and high school favorite. Donnie married William Stancel McLaughlin on Jan. 3, 1953. She worked at the Taylor Daily Press and City National Bank early in her career. She was a life-long member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church where she worked many years in the Church Rectory, sang in the Traditional Church Choir, was a member of St. Anne’s Altar Society, and volunteered.
Donnie enjoyed hosting coffee after Mass and lunches on Sundays for the family, always making her homemade bread for the occasions; baking pies and all desserts, homemade candy, canning pickles and making jellies; spending time with her family, never missing a family sporting event or a special occasion; sightseeing with her daughters; spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and talking with her many lifelong and new friends.
Donnie amazingly fought and survived ovarian cancer for 45 years.
She is survived by her three daughters, Christi and husband Laine Holman, Teresa and husband Tom Nemec, and Laura and husband Bryan Maloy; her grandchildren, Brent Holman (wife Michele), Gail Coronado (husband Joseph), Bradly Nemec (wife Elizabeth), Kaylee Nemec, Julie Nemec, Rachel Maloy, and John Maloy; and great grandchildren Charlotte Coronado, Hudson Holman, Sophie Coronado, and Harper Holman.The family thanks the staff at Texas Oncology and North Austin Urology for their care, and all of her family and friends for their support and assistance with her appointments over the years.
