Clifford Shamard, 74, of Taylor passed away peacefully Sunday, September 8, 2024, surrounded by his wife and family at the SPJST Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Clifford was born on July 24, 1950, in Georgetown, Texas to Otto and Edna (Druesdow) Shamard. Clifford graduated from Taylor High School in 1969 (forever a Duck). Clifford went on to work several jobs over the years, with many of those years spent at Safeway, Taylor Meat Company and finally retiring from HEB. Clifford married Barbara Manning on March 20, 1999, and spent the next 25 years traveling when time allowed and just living a simple life. Their favorite travel destinations were Port Aransas and the Texas Hill Country. Clifford loved hunting and had so many hunting related stories that always included his longtime friends. In his younger days, he loved fast cars and big trucks. Clifford had many stories of riding the streets of old Taylor with his friends, outrunning Taylor police, Taylor police taking him and his friends home when caught drinking underage; the stories were numerous and always humorous.
Clifford is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Barbara of 25 years; his sister Rosie Shamard (Frank); nephew Stewart Strnad (Christina); niece Rebecca Strnad; great-nephew Wesley Strnad (Josie); and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation .
Many thanks to the care provided by the staff at SPTJST Nursing and Rehab Center and the nursing staff of Heart to Heart Hospice. Lastly, Barbara would like to thank her mom, Margaret Barnett for all the help she provided the last couple of years as Clifford declined. Without Margaret, Clifford most likely would not have had the comfort of being in his home up until the end. Thank you for everything, mom.
