On Friday, October 13, 2017, Cleo Alvin Roberts went home to be with the Lord. He was born September 26, 1924 in Normanna, TX to Cleo Alton Roberts and Mildred Blackwell Roberts. At an early age, the family moved to Wilamar, TX, where Alvin grew up on the family farm. After graduation from San Perlita High School, he attended Texas A&I College. Alvin was drafted into the Army Air Corp during WWII. After training at several bases, he served with the 458 t h Bomber Group in England. After the war, Alvin came home, met and married Agnes Lee Thompson in 1947.
Alvin is survived by his son Richard Roberts and wife Roma of Longview, TX, daughter Arlene Hughes and husband Craig of Ocean View, DE, three grandsons Derrick and wife Annie Roberts, David Roberts and John David Zachry and four great-grandchildren Peyton and Paisley Roberts and Tyler and Ryan Zachry.
After Agnes’ death, Alvin married Wanda Campbell and extended family Charlotte and Gene Schneebeck, Dennis and Brenda Baird, Patricia and Steve Sorensen, Phyllis and James Hillhouse, Colleen and Terry Hughes, and 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Providence Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor under the direction of Rev. Dudley Marx of Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be 1:00 P.M., Monday, October 16, 2017 at Rosewood Cemetery in Humble, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Baptist Church of Taylor in Alvin’s name.
