Clarence "Groucho" Marx

Clarence Marx, age 86, was born at Thorndale Texas and was called to his Eternal Home on February 27, 2019 at Taylor, Texas. Clarence was a wonderful husband, father and friend to many who knew him.

He was born on January 14, 1933 to Otto and Martha Marx and grew up on the farm north of Thorndale. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale by the Rev. F. H. Stelzer and attended school at St. Paul Lutheran School through the 8th grade. After completing the 8th grade, he stayed at home to help out on the farm. He entered the Army on March 16, 1954 and served until March 2, 1956 including an 18-month stint in Germany. After his time in the army, he went to work at Alcoa in Rockdale. He was married to Helen Schubert on April 17, 1960 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor Texas by Rev. August Horn. Clarence and Helen had 2 children: Rodney and Melissa.   He worked at Alcoa from 1956 in the Metal Service Ingot department and retired from there in 1994. He was known by the nickname 'Goucho' by many who worked with him since he, at one time, smoked cigars.   After retirement, he loved to spend time down on his farm near Paige, gardening, helping out around the church and spending time with his coffee group solving the important issues of the day.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Martha Marx and brothers Alfred Marx and Leonard Marx. He was also preceded in death by half-sisters Adele Urban, Frieda Cajka, Alvina Finn, Hulda Marx, Lena Hannusch, Malinda Marx and Minnie Artieschoufsky and half-brothers Ewald Schroeder, Richard Marx, Benhard Marx and Edwin Marx.

Clarence is survived by wife Helen of Taylor, son Rodney of Hutto and daughter Melissa of Paige. He is also survived by sister-in-law Esther Schroeder of Austin plus many nieces and nephews.
