Charles Lawrence Grimes, known to all as Joe, passed away on Wednesday, April 27th at the age of 76. He was born to William & Emily Grimes on March 2, 1946. Joe grew up with two older siblings, Henry and Priscilla, in Wheaton, Illinois. On May 11th, 1968 Joe married the love of his life, Phyllis Burns, and was soon favored with two children, Lance and Katrina.
Joe worked as a machinist for much of his career. While living in Thrall, TX, just down the street from his daughter, Joe worked at the local WalMart. Many of the residents, co-workers and congregation looked forward to seeing his friendly smile when they shopped. More recently, he dedicated his life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, serving as a full-time volunteer minister. He and Phyllis, as well as granddaughter Emma Grimes, have lived in Puebla, Mexico since 2018. They have loved their "adventure'', as well as the congregation they serve with there, making many close friends and wonderful memories. When not busy in the ministry, Joe enjoyed reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. Everywhere the Grimes settled, they hosted many get-togethers with game nights, laughter and good food among friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and son. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Phyllis; his daughter, Katrina Weber & husband Heath; granddaughter Emma Grimes; and numerous nieces and nephews along with their
families.
An online memorial service and slideshow will be held via Zoom on Saturday, May 7th at 10:30am.
