Carmen Velasquez was born July 16, 1966 in Taylor, Texas. Raised in Taylor, she was the youngest of 8 children. She spent much of her life here, forming life-long relationships. Carmen entered her heavenly home June 18, 2021 at the age of 54.
Carmen is preceded in death by her brother Sergio Velasquez, and parents; Guadalupe Velasquez and Rita Velasquez, and her former spouse Pedro “Pete” Alderete.
She is survived by her children; Leonel Esteban Arce and Ariana Arce, siblings; Herminia and husband Pete Herrera, Mary Velasquez, Marcelina and husband Manuel Reyes, Sally Velasquez, Jesse Velasquez and The late Ernestine, Felix and wife Mary Velasquez.
She attended and graduated from Taylor High School in 1984. She dedicated 23 years to the Army National Guard, where she eventually retired as Master Sergeant. Throughout her service, she attended Texas State University and earned a Bachelor’s of Accountancy. She eventually went on to even achieve a Master’s in Quality Management. Carmen, a woman recognized for her hard-work, then furthered her career by becoming a successful Real Estate Agent. Among her real estate efforts, she was employed at the Department of Veteran Affairs, where she assisted those she once worked alongside.
Carmen has been described as a woman with true grit, discipline, and unfaltering faith, that met everyone with a warm smile. If it wasn’t her meticulously kept yard that had her neighborhood in awe, or her ambition when it came to building a successful career, it was her nature of being a dedicated mother that truly impressed so many around her. She greatly enjoyed supporting her children in all their efforts, whether it was a sporting event, new job, or renovating a new home – Carmen was there, proud of everything Leo and Ariana have strived for. She was also a great friend that loved to go out and create new memories to laugh about later. Everything she did was centered around those she so passionately loved.
