Carl Beran, Jr.

February 21, 1941 — October 7, 2024

Carl Beran, Jr., 83, of Thrall, Texas, returned to his heavenly home on October 7, 2024, after a valiant battle with a brief illness.  His firm faith in God supported him during his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Carl was born to Carl Sr. and Albina Beran in Taylor, Texas, on February 21, 1941.  He was baptized April 5, 1942, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Thrall.  He attended school in Elgin, Texas, and then joined the U.S. Army in June of 1961.  For the next five years, he served his country as a medical specialist in Korea and Vietnam, where he received several letters of commendation from his commanding officers.     He was especially proud of his service as a Senior Medical Specialist on the pediatric ward while serving in Vietnam.

Upon returning home from military service, he obtained sole custody of his two daughters and began his long career in the medical department at ALCOA.  A few years later, he met his soon to be wife, Carolyn, while she was selling Tupperware door-to-door.  They were married a few months later on March 14, 1969.  Through their marriage, they united their two families: Carolyn and her daughter Cindy, and Carl and his two daughters Kathy and Cynthia.  Several years later they welcomed their daughter Carla.  Together they raised their four daughters on their farm in Thrall, Texas.  They enjoyed many family vacations at their favorite coastal town, Rockport, Texas, where they also owned property.

Carl loved the farm and enjoyed caring for the animals and garden.  He taught his daughters how to care for the animals, tend the garden, and work hard.  Even though there was grumbling from his daughters about the hard work and a few choice words from him, he persevered, and his daughters later appreciated all that they learned growing up on the farm.  When Carl wasn’t farming, he was fishing.  He enjoyed sharing his love for fishing with many friends and family.

Carl will be dearly missed by his family and friends who are at peace knowing he is now celebrating his new life with Jesus Christ.

Carl is survived by his four daughters, Kathy Beran, Cynthia Beran, Cindy MaCuk and husband Ben, and Carla Clegg and husband Brian; his 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.  He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Beran, Larry Beran, Gary Beran, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Beran; parents, Carl Sr. and Albina Beran; sister Nancy Kemper, brother Jimmy Beran, and his nephew Kevin Beran.

The family would especially like to thank Julia Sorrells with Home Instead; Corey, Cheryl, Jennifer, Sabrina, Maria, and Tish with Concho Hearts Hospice; and Teresa, Gracie, Misty, and Jessica at Bel Air at Teravista, for their loving care and compassion for our father over the past several months.  The family also wishes to thank Carl’s nephew, Greg Beran, for his help and the many visits they know Carl enjoyed.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Pastor George Qualley for the compassionate service and support during this difficult time.  Your words and presence have brought comfort to us and our father.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in memory of Carl, or to the charity of your choice.
