Calvin Frank Schaefer

October 13, 1950 — November 10, 2023

Calvin Schaefer, 73, of Fort Worth, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Calvin Frank Schaefer was born on October 13, 1950, in Joliet, Illinois, to Calvin C. and Eleanor (MaCuk) Schaefer. He grew up with one younger brother, Kenny, and the family moved to Taylor, TX, when Calvin was four years old.

Calvin graduated from Taylor High School in 1969. He was a member of the 1969 Taylor Duck state champion baseball team and lettered and was named to all-district teams in football, basketball, and baseball. After high school, he attended Temple Junior College, where he played baseball for two years.

On June 22, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Kaye Teichelman, in Taylor, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2023. Calvin and Kaye had two daughters, Kimberly and Karyn.

Calvin worked for the University of Texas at Austin for over 38 years until his retirement in 2012. He worked in various departments, most recently in the IT Department, where he helped run and maintain the UT statewide network system. In 2012, he and Kaye moved to Fort Worth to be closer to their two daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.

He attended Travis Avenue Baptist Church and Bible Study Fellowship in Fort Worth. Calvin enjoyed playing the guitar and following sports. He was a loyal supporter of TCU athletics since 1973, and was a football season ticket holder for 27 years. After moving to Fort Worth, Calvin and Kaye also became season ticket holders of TCU basketball and baseball, and Calvin almost never missed a TCU home game.

His greatest joy was being “Hodgie” to his four grandchildren and being involved in their daily lives. He enjoyed taking and picking them up from school and activities and attending all of their school and sporting events. His most special memories were the trips he took with his wife Kaye and his daughters’ families. Above all, Calvin treasured his family, his friends, and the Lord.

Calvin is preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenny.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kaye, daughters, Kimberly Bowen and husband Brent, and Karyn Smith and husband Justin; grandchildren, Kirsten and Brenna Bowen, and Evangeline and Austin Smith; brother-in-law Alan Teichelman and wife Mandy; nephew Clayton Schaefer and wife Candace, nephew Derek Schaefer, niece Stephanie Schaefer; nephew Matthew Teichelman and wife Amanda, niece Jennifer Yack and husband Alex, niece Katie Price and husband Paul, and numerous great nephews and nieces and cousins.

Pallbearers are Matthew Teichelman, Clayton Schaefer, Derek Schaefer, Alex Yack, Paul Price, and Heath Nuckolls.
