Betty Unnasch

Betty R. Unnasch, 70, of Thorndale passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.

She was born June 24, 1951 in Winnsboro, Louisiana to James R. Smith and Nell L. Brewster-Poe.

Betty had a loving heart, kind soul, and beautiful spirit. She loved her family fiercely and her love and faith for her Savior were unmoveable. She was a very proud mother and grandmother. She always called her grandchildren and great grandchildren the light of her life and joy of her heart. She never hesitated to offer a kind word or helping hand to anyone in need. She opened her heart and home to those who had no one or no place to go and became “mama” and “nana” Betty to so many.

Betty is preceded in death by both of her parents, her beloved husband Verdis H. Unnasch, sister Carol Lightsey, brothers James D. Smith and Stephen D. Smith, niece Glenda K. Marek, sister-in-law Patricia Smith, and daughter-in-law Sonja Scoggins.

Betty is survived by her son Phillip S. Templain,  daughter La Nell Deary & husband Joseph,  and niece Linda R. Marek of Thorndale,  and stepson Mark Templain & wife Laurie of Dallas. She leaves behind three grandchildren, Joe Deary Jr, Joshua Deary, and Madelyn Deary, two great grandchildren Grace-Lynn Deary and Samuel Faglie of Kerrville, and numerous nieces, nephews, and “grands” that she claimed as her own.
