Beatris Irene Castanon

July 19, 1939 — September 18, 2023

Beatris (Betty) I. Casta̴ñon, age 84, passed away at home with loving family by her side on September 18, 2023 in Taylor, TX. She was born in Safford, AZ to the late Juaquina Dominguez. Betty was the oldest of four children.

After graduating from high school in Globe, AZ in 1957, Betty joined the United States Army, serving her country for three years. She was honorably discharged in 1960 as an E-5. While enlisted she met her husband, Trino. They married in 1961. They spent their early years living in California until Trino got a job with General Motors in Saginaw, Michigan. She hated to leave California but off she went, with baby Sylvia, to cold Michigan winters. Thirty years later she was able to leave the cold behind and moved to sunny Tucson, Arizona. She loved living in the desert closer to her family and would visit with them often. In the last few years of her life, she moved to Texas to follow the great-grandchildren.

Betty had a long career as a legal secretary. She came out of retirement in her later years to work as a caregiver for the elderly. She had a big heart and liked to keep herself busy. Betty loved her family and close friends with her whole being. She was a dedicated wife, and the best mom and grandma. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her daughter, grandson, or great-grandchildren. They were her greatest joy. She was their biggest cheerleader and defender. She loved flowers and gardening, eating out, traveling, Disneyland, collecting rocks, learning new things, and helping people. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, painting, ceramics, and baking.

She was a stylish dresser who was always well put together from head to toe. She loved singing and dancing. She and Trino spent many nights gliding across the dance floor together, looking like a couple in love, comfortably in sync with each other. She was a strong, independent, and feisty woman living life on her terms. If she had something to say, she was going to say it. There was never any question where you stood with her. She would surely let you know. She also didn’t believe in wasting time feeling sorry for yourself. Regardless of what hand you’ve been dealt, make the best of it, move on and get to living. Betty was a happy and fun person with a beautiful, youthful, and generous spirit. She had the best smile and laugh. We miss her immensely.

She is survived by her spouse, Trinidad (Trino) Casta̴ñon; daughter, Sylvia Casta̴ñon; grandson, Enrique Trinidad Casta̴ñon; granddaughter-in-law, Benita Celina Maria Casta̴ñon; greatgrandchildren, Liam Julian Moon Elias, Ezequiel Adan Casta̴ñon, Ezra Luna Beatris Casta̴ñon, and Enrique Omer Casta̴ñon; sister, Linda Jo Arnett of Miami, AZ; and brother, Conrad Lopez of Safford, AZ. She is preceded in death by her mother, Juaquina D. Rivera, and sister, Marjorie Collette.

The family would like to give special thanks to niece, Laura Casta̴ñon Martinez, Kindful Hospice, and nurse Kelsey.
