Aubrey Don Keeling “Skinny Don” went to his heavenly home on March 23rd, 2021 at 7:20 pm.
Don was a native Austinite who was born on August 8th, 1937 on the San Gabriel river in Georgetown, TX.
He was preceded in death, by the love of his life and wife of 51 years, Barbara Keeling in 2010. It was a true love story. He was also preceded by his infant grandson, Reno Keeling; parents Alvin and Webby Isabelle Keeling; siblings Ted Keeling, Billy Keeling and Doris King.
He is survived by his children Clay Keeling and his wife Katie; Cliff Keeling; Cindy Keeling Bates and Laurie Keeling Mcneil. He is also survived by grandchildren Drew Keeling, Madison Keeling and Ally Keeling; Calah Keeling, Donny Keeling, Aubrey Keeling and Colton Keeling; Adam Goodale, Bailey Graves, and Brooke Hughes; Luke McNeil and Parker McNeil. Also, his great grandchildren Brodyn, Logan and Grayson. He is also survived by his sister, Joanie Keeling Farley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don owned and operated a very successful excavation and paving business for 45 years. He balanced his work with his true passion of music where he was an accomplished bassist and a great singer. In his career, he had the honor of playing with George Jones, Louvin Brothers, Hank Thompson and many others. He played with Don Walser and The Pure Texas Band for over 15 years. He traveled the US and internationally played at the Grand Ole Opry, 1996 Olympics and Switzerland.
Don was an incredible husband and father. He loved spending time with his family. His favorite activities included coaching the boys sports, hunting, fishing, playing music, singing, attending anything the kids/grandkids participated in and he loved traveling any chance he could. He was active a member in the Baptist Church for many years and he shared his musical talent with the congregation. He also shared his love of music with so many throughout the years by mentoring and coaching others.
His blue eyes and million-dollar smile could light up a room. He was the true example of a southern gentleman. He had the biggest heart and the sweetest soul. He will be missed greatly as he was loved so deeply. He left such a loving legacy.
