Arlie Earl Wuensche

February 17, 1925 — September 18, 2020

Arlie “Earl” Wuensche, 95, longtime resident of Thorndale, Texas, passed away peacefully at The Oaks Assisted Living in Flower Mound, Texas, on Friday, September 18, 2020.

Mr. Wuensche was born February 17, 1925, in Thorndale, Texas, to Lilly Schwenker Wuensche and Charles Albert Wuensche. His mother, Lilly Wuensche passed away shortly after his birth.  His father “Collie” Wuensche remarried, and Earl, along with his sister, Delores, and brother, Charles, were raised by his father and his new mother, Regina Moerbe Wuensche.

Mr. Wuensche graduated from Thorndale High School in 1942 and briefly attended Texas A&M before serving in the Army during World War II.  He  received his honorable discharge on March 8, 1946.  After his military service, he returned to Thorndale to marry the love of his life, Frances “Evelyn” Perreten Wuensche.  They were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church on November 10, 1946.  Mr. Wuensche worked as a mechanic for Taylor Motor Company and parts manager for  Ideal Motor Company in Thorndale.  He owned Ideal Insurance Agency and later worked for Alcoa Aluminum Company in the Storeroom.  He retired from Alcoa in 1990.

Earl loved working in his garden, fishing, playing 42, camping with his sweetheart, raising cattle, talking about his Lord and Savior, and watching the crops grow.  He was very active in St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder, Chairman of the Congregation, Sunday school teacher and in various other ways to meet the needs of the congregation.  Earl loved and served his family and enjoyed spending time with them; most of all, Earl loved the Lord and loved sharing his faith and giving glory to God for every good thing he did and every good thing he received in his life.  He was also active in the VFW Hill Johnson Post #4009 and a member of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Wuensche was preceded in death by his birth mother Lilly Wuensche, his father C.A. “Collie” Wuensche, his stepmother, Regina Wuensche, and his sister Delores Greinert,  He is survived by his wife, Frances “Evelyn” Wuensche, his daughter, Donna Johnston and her husband Robert of San Antonio; daughter, Susan Nagel and her husband John of Flower Mound; brother, Charles Albert Wuensche II and wife Louise of Lancaster, SC; grandchildren, Rodney Phillips, Dawn Puryear and husband, Cole; Stephanie Mack and husband, Billy; Amber Weed and husband, Jonathan; and John Bryant and wife, Stephanie; ten great-grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, from 5:00 to 6:00pm for family only and open visitation for friends who wish to pay their respects from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. The family is requesting that friends follow Covid 19 guidelines by wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.  Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale, Texas,  on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at 10:00am for family only.    Services will be shared online for those wishing to join in our celebration of his life. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or a charity of your choice.
