Annie Ziegler, 100 years young, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning, March 14, 2021 at Platinum Resorts Assist Living in Georgetown, Texas. Annie was born October 15, 1920 in Lieibenthal, Kansas to parents John and Anna (Heronema) Schmidt. She was one of nine children.
Annie attended Elementary School at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Liebenthal, Kansas, and La Crosse High School in La Crosse, Kansas. She later trained to be a nurse’s aide at Great Bend Hospital in Great Bend, Kansas.
Annie was united in marriage to Clem Ziegler on November 18, 1941. They made their home on the family farm south of Collyer, Kansas. To this union, they added seven children, twenty-four grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Annie worked as a nurse’s aide in WaKeeney, Kansas for several years, but most of her life was dedicated to caring for her family.
Annie loved to entertain. She cooked countless meals for family and friends, assuring that no one ever left hungry or without something to take home. She also loved playing cards. She taught most of her grandchildren how to play and always made sure they left with some winnings.
Her family is thankful to have shared so many wonderful years with her. May her great faith lead her home.
Annie is survived by: Anita (Ziegler)Thomas, Lucy (Ziegler)Schreiner and Rich Schreiner, Pat Ziegler and Cathy (Dooley) Ziegler, Karen (Campbell) Ziegler, Paulette Ziegler, Milissa (Ziegler) Metcalf and Bill Metcalf and all of her grandchildren. Annie was preceded in death by her husband Clem and sons Tim Ziegler and Mark Ziegler.
