Ann Elizabeth Lee

Ann Elizabeth Lee passed away peacefully Sunday, November 19, 2017 in Conroe, Texas. Ann brought a light into our lives that will never be extinguished. Her love, legacy and commitment to her church and community will live forever. She was a living treasure on this earth and will remain so in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her.

Ann was born in Austin, Texas, October 9, 1953 to Mary Frances and Glenn Arthur Lee. She moved from Austin to Taylor, Texas in 1963 with her family and graduated from Taylor High School with honors in 1972. She was a member of the National Honor Society, voted Most Scholarly, member of FTA, Latin and Spanish Clubs, Drum Major, Honors and Stage Bands and recipient of numerous awards and honors in choir and band.

She graduated magna cum laude from Sam Houston State University, majoring in Music Education in 1976. Her upper-ranking in the top ten percent allowed her to join Alpha Chi, the University’s Honor Society. Conroe became her home after taking a position as choral director at Conroe High School from 1977-1985. She became the Director of Music at the First United Methodist Church, where she began a lifetime of music ministry and service to the people of the church and her community. She was a 30 plus year member of the Conroe Lions Club, playing music at the luncheon functions.

In 1984 Ann took the reins of the Conroe Chorale, now the Montgomery County Choral Society, where she introduced a new format which began with a dinner show time concert in the fall, a special Christmas concert and a major works spring concert. Ann loved to travel and led the MCCS on a number of trips abroad, performing in Germany, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Austria and Switzerland.

In June 2014 Ann led the MCCS to New York City to perform “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass” at Carnegie Hall. Ann led the choirs at FUMC providing a special ministry of music and love for all the members of the church.

Ann’s love of teaching music, both choral and instrumental, impacted literally thousands of people, young and old, over her career. Her involvement in church, school, theater and community instilled the joy and love of music to so many people and at so many levels.

Anyone who knew Ann, knew she was a cat person. Over the years, Purcell, and The Bogey had a very special place in her life, along with all the cat memorabilia she could get into her home.

Ann had many gifts and talents which she used to enrich people’s lives, and which led people to gravitate to her and her special sense of humor. She had an uncanny ability to serve all those around her in need. In 2015 she was recognized by the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance with The Visionary Award.

Ann was and is loved by her family and the many friends in Conroe and Taylor. She is survived by her brother, Randy M. Lee and sister-in law Sherry of Westlake Hills, Texas, and her loving and cherished nephew Dallas A. Lee of San Marcos, Texas.  She also has many loving cousins across the country.

For Ann’s Taylor friends and family, visitation will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd, Taylor, Texas, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Following on the same day, graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 pm, by Rev. Dr. Travis Summerlin at Cook-Walden Capital Parks, 14501 N. IH-35, Pflugerville, TX.

For Ann’s family and friends in Conroe, a Celebration of Ann’s Life, Love and Music will be conducted on January, 13, 2018, 11:00 am at the First Methodist Church, 4308 W. Davis, Conroe Texas.
