Alice Hajda

January 11, 1933 — September 5, 2021

Alice Matula Hajda, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2021, at the age of 88.  She was a devout Catholic and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Alice was born to Rudolph and Lillian (Cervenka) Matula, in Granger, Texas on January 11, 1933.  She married Rudy Hajda on February 5, 1951. They were married for 54 years until his death in 2005 and together they were blessed with four children.  Alice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and sister.

Alice was a lifelong resident of Granger.  She attended S.S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic School and graduated from Granger High School in 1950.  She was a member of S.S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and K.J.Z.T. #18. She was also active with the American Legion Auxiliary, Granger Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, Catholic Life Organization and SPJST Lodge #20 . She was an excellent seamstress and made many clothes for her daughter, Melissa, and herself.  She crocheted many beautiful baby blankets that she shared with family and friends.  She worked as a seamstress at Ca-Ce-Lane in Granger.  Later, she worked for the Williamson County Bridge and Road Division for 14 years.  She also loved to garden, work in her yard, and play bingo with her husband and many friends.

Alice loved to visit with family and friends and share stories of earlier years. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Alice spent her last seven years as a resident at Will-O-Bell Nursing Home in Bartlett, Texas enjoying friends and playing dominos, bingo, and her handheld poker games.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff and care givers of Will‑O‑Bell Nursing Home for their loving care, kindness, and compassion for their mother.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rudy, her two brothers, Clarence and Raymond Matula and her oldest son Patrick Hajda.  Survivors include her son Gary Hajda and wife, Becky of San Antonio, Texas; son Rick Hajda and wife, Sandra of Salisbury, North Carolina and daughter, Melissa Hajda of Round Rock, Texas.  Grandchildren: Matthew and wife, Allison Hajda of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; Nicholas Hajda of Austin, Texas; Rachel (Hajda) Clark and husband Clayton of San Antonio, Texas; Sara Hajda of San Antonio, Texas; Luke Hajda and fiancé, Courtney Sell of Vancouver, Washington; Reid Hajda and fiancé, Chloe Weaver of Islamorada, Florida and Kaitlin (Hajda) and husband, Jerrod Overcash of Clayton, North Carolina.  Great grandchildren; Claire and Evan Hajda of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas and Spencer Overcash of Clayton, North Carolina.  Brother-in-law, Albert Hajda, sisters-in-law Lillian Naizer and Betty Hajda, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial or charitable contributions may be made in her name to S.S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, P.O. Box 608, Granger, Texas 76530.
