Alfred Robert Streit
Another hero has been called home. Alfred Robert Streit, 92, of Coupland, Texas passed away Dec. 12, 2010.
He was born Oct. 14, 1918, in Beaukiss to Fritz and Frieda (Buetikofer) Streit. He was baptized Dec. 8, 1918 and confirmed Dec. 4, 1932 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation at Mager School in Beyersville.
Alfred served in the armed services for four years, two being in the European Theater of Operation during WWII. While on military leave, he met the love of his life, Hallie, when touring Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Aug. 4, 1946 he and Hallie S. Gregg were united in marriage at St. Peter’s Church of Coupland.
Alfred was a devoted husband and cherished his family. He was never seen without a smile on his face. Alfred worked construction, farmed for many years and retired from the City of Taylor. He had a great love for the land, the outdoors and hunting. PaPa and Gram spent many happy days traveling and camping around the United States.
Alfred was a faithful member of St. Peter’s UCC of Coupland since 1937, where he served as church president and on many committees throughout the years. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife Hallie, four children: Barbara Adkisson of Jewett; Jeanne Taylor (John), of Coupland; Robert Streit (Doreen), of Coupland; and Roger Streit (Mary), of League City. Seven grandchildren: Kurt Taylor (Jessica), Heath Taylor (Susan), Clint Adkisson, LeAnn Adkisson Hooper (Rodney), Darren Streit (Tessa), Jill Streit and Devin Streit. Also nine great-grandchildren: Paige and Colby Taylor, Callie and Terra Adkisson, Tinsley and Isadora Streit, Karley and Katelyn Taylor and Caden Hooper. Also surviving is one sister Alice Guenther. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lydia Beyer and son-in-law Terry Adkisson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Coupland with Pastor John Sumner officiating. Burial will be held at Coupland Cemetery with full military honors. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
