Noberta Mendolla Ortiz, 96 of Hutto, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at her home.
Visitation was held on Monday at 6 PM with a Rosary recited at 7 PM at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Celebration of Life Mass was held at 2PM on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor with burial following at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery, Taylor. Pallbearers were Cleto Ortiz, Jr., Manuel Ortiz, Edward Ortiz, Johnny Gonzales, Rufino Olivarez and Christian Torres. Honorary Pallbearers were Juan F. Riojas, Jr., Miguel Torres, Veronica Ortiz and Isabel Gonzales.
Noberta Mendolla Ortiz was born on June 6, 1914 to Jesus and Acencion (Vargas) Mendolla in Gonzales, Texas. She married Rufino Castillo Ortiz and they had 10 children together and she later raised 6 of her grandchildren from birth as her very own. She lived in Taylor, TX all of her life. Noberta worked as a migrant worker in her younger years. She had a very good “green thumb” and liked to sew. She use to go help cook at Our Lady of Guadalupe church. Noberta always tried to help out everyone and anyone whether or not you were related to her.
Noberta is preceded in death by her parents, her children; Roman Ortiz, Tito Ortiz, Cleto Ortiz, Carmen Alderete, grandson, Rudy Ortiz, 3 great-grandchildren, her brothers and her sisters.
She is survived by 6 daughters: Janie Fajordo of Wichita, KS, Pauline concha form Milwaukee, WI, Isabel Banda from Austin, Mary Moya, Minnie Torres, Irene Ortiz, all of Taylor, a son, Rufus Ortiz of Taylor, daughter-in-law Nada Ortiz of Georgetown, 5 adopted granddaughters; Juanita Riojas of Hutto, Kim Ortiz, Belinda Burks, Angelica Cabello, Veronica Ortiz, all of Taylor, and a grandson, Jaun Riojas, Jr. In all, 48 grandchildren, 185 great-grandchildren, 154 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild.
