Allyne Mildred Summerlin went to her eternal rest, Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at the age of 94. Allyne was born June 4, 1916, in Thorndale, Texas to Ernst Adolph Miertschin and wife, Augusta Dorothea Agnes Kieschnick Miertschin.
Allyne was a Christian lady and lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thorndale, Texas. Shewas baptized on June 25, 1916, and confirmed on March 24, 1930, by Rev. F.H. Stelzer. Allyne attended St. Paul Lutheran School for seven years and graduated from Thorndale High School. She also graduated from Business School in Dallas, Texas.
On July 4, 1938, Allyne married Harold M. Summerlin in Cameron, Texas. They were blessed with two loving and helping sons.
As a young woman, Allyne was employed as a secretary in Galveston and later by Summerlin Dry Goods in Thorndale. She was employed by the City of Thorndale for 23 years as a City Clerk and retired in December 1981. For many years, she actively worked for city, school, and county elections. Allyne was also a business woman. For many years she sold Beauty Counselor/Vanda Cosmetics, and for forty years she raised and sold beautiful parakeets. Allyne received a Meritorious Service Award from the City of Thorndale for her work at City Hall for 23 years.
Allyne was an extraordinary lady and remained independent and active until her death. She enjoyed her daily devotions and drove herself to church every Sunday. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her home and lovely flower beds. Allyne was a wonderful cook and hostess. She loved her family and created a home that was a delight to her family and friends. Fun highlights of her life were her grandchildren, a Hawaiian vacation, and meeting actor, Dennis Quaid, during the filming of “The Rookie” at her Thorndale home. Most recently, her life was filled with joy from her first great-grandchild, Stella Grace.
Celebrating her life, she is survived by her sons, Harold Manning Summerlin, Jr. and wife, Mary Lue, of Kingwood, Texas and Giles Summerlin and wife, Evelyn, of Thorndale, Texas; grandchildren, Brett Summerlin and wife, Katherine, of Houston, Texas, Charlotte Beth Tonsor and husband, Dennis, of Austin, Texas, and Melinda O’Sullivan and husband, Bryan, of Round Rock, Texas; one great-grandchild, Stella Grace Tonsor of Austin, Texas; brother, Leroy Miertschin of Hitchcock, Texas; nieces and nephews.
Allyne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold, in 1962; sisters, Esther Kiesling, Mary Louise Pratt, and Helen Rieger; brothers, William Miertschin, Edward Miertschin, Harry Miertschin, Charles Miertschin, Elmo Miertschin, and Joseph Miertschin.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. Celebration of Life Services will be held Sunday, October 17, 2010 at St, Paul Lutheran Church, Thorndale, Texas. Burial will follow at the Thorndale City Cemetery.
