Marvin W Hamann

Marvin W. Hamann passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born November 13, 1923 to Richard and Lydia Stern Hamann in the home in which he grew up, in the Richland Community. Marvin married Alwina Sophia Marie Hodde on January 12, 1952.

With the passing of his father at the young age of 15, he assisted his mother in the raising of his three brothers. He graduated from Manor High School in 1941. After graduation, Marvin worked on the family farms.

He enjoyed being involved in agriculture, working with youth, organizing the Pflugerville FFA Booster Club, and was a 4-H adult leader with the Richland 4-H Club. This activity allowed him to be very involved with the Travis County Livestock Show and the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo where he served as a member of the Board of Directors. He received the 4-H Gold Star, the Silver Spur, and the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo Director Emeritus Award.

Marvin was a life-long resident of the Richland Community. He was an active member of the St. John Church including teaching Sunday school for 60 years, choir, and served on many committees. He was a lifelong member of the Richland Community Club and the Cele Community Farmers group. Marvin served on the Board of Directors for the German American Farm Mutual Insurance Company for 17 years.

What Marvin enjoyed most was going to Sunday School and Church and staying true to his faith as a Christian. He was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alwina. They had three children; Louise Dunklin and husband Reagan of Pflugerville, Carlton and wife Pam of Weatherford, and Maurice and wife Millie of Thrall. “Grandpa” to seven grandchildren; James and Cody; Shelly, Ryan and Lee; Mac and Kaleb; nine great-grandchildren: Kylee and Kaydence; Koen, Kami, Bailey, Greyson, Madelynn, Addelynn, and Stetson.

Marvin is also survived by his brother, Calvin and wife Vera; sister-n-laws, Katherine Hamann, Adele Hodde, Gertrude Hodde, Elnora Steger, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Kermit and Richard Hamann.

The celebration of life service and burial will be held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 17701 Cameron Road, Pflugerville, Texas 78660 on Saturday, August 5th at 11 am, with visitation being held on Friday, August 4th at the Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas from 6-8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund and / or the Travis 4-H Scholarship Fund, 7411 Albert Road, Austin, Texas 78745.
