Charles M Liles

September 7, 1925 — July 20, 2017

Charles M. Liles (Charlie) passed away on July 20, 2017 at the age of 91. He was born September 7, 1925 in Alto, Texas. He married a beautiful young woman he met at the local skating rink, Pauline Koehne Liles on August 1, 1948 in Palestine Texas.

Charlie enlisted in the US Navy on his 17th birthday, serving from 1942-1947. During WWII he served as a Yeoman on the destroyer USS Pritchett in the Pacific Arena. He intended to be a 20-year man, but upon meeting his sweetheart Pauline, decided he would rather be with her so he went to school instead.
After WWII, he attended Nixon Business College in Palestine, Texas and upon graduation he started work at Tidewater Oil Company in Kilgore.

During his career as an admin assistant he worked for British American in Colorado and New Mexico. Charlie and family returned to Taylor where Charlie was hired by Alcoa and worked until retirement.
Charlie was a man full of life who never met a stranger. He loved to fish and spent many hours with friends on surrounding lakes, bowling, trips to casinos with Pauline and many domino games at Moe’s. He loved people and would stop into different businesses just to say hello.
He and Pauline are members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor where they have worshiped for years.

Among some of his achievements; he attended many reunions of his ship the USS Pritchett around the US, to reminisce with fellow ship mates from WWII. He was honored with a trip to Washington DC with the Honor Flight. He was very proud to have served aboard the USS Pritchett in defense of his country during the war.

He continues to be loved by his wife of 69 years, Pauline Liles of Taylor, granddaughter Lindsay Liles of Portland, Oregon, niece Rebecca Kennon & husband Alan of Amarillo, Texas, nephew Martin Koehne of Amarillo, Texas, and many family and friends.
His two sons Charles M. Liles Jr. (Bud) and David R. Liles preceded him in death. They will be reunited in heaven.

Graveside services will be held at Taylor City Cemetery at 11:00am. on Monday July 24, 2017. Arrangements by Providence Funeral Home.
