Maria Ortiz Saenz, 102 years of age, of Taylor, Texas, passed away peacefully Friday, May 12, 2017, surrounded by loving family members. She was born January 10, 1915, in Martindale, Texas to Seferino and Leandra (Estrada) Ortiz.
As a young woman, Maria moved to Taylor where she met and married her husband, Rudolph Saenz, Sr., on August 28, 1941. They were married for over 67 years. Their lives together were blessed with 7 children. Maria was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a dedicated and devout Catholic, strong in her Christian faith, with daily prayers to our Lord Jesus Christ and our Blessed Mother.
During her lifetime, Maria concentrated on raising her children and being a homemaker. She also worked in the nursing home and hospital settings, and subsequently retired her employment from the University of Texas at Austin. Mom (Grandma) was known for her unconditional love, guidance and support, but also for her great cooking and sense of humor. She instilled in her family the importance and value of a good education and service to their communities and fellow man. Maria also volunteered her time and talents with the Church, Johns Community Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary, St. Vincent de Paul thrift store and was a member of the Guadalupanas at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish.
She is predeceased by her husband, Rudolph Saenz, Sr., daughter Emma Saenz Gonzales, sons Rudolph Saenz, Jr. and Gilbert Saenz, granddaughter Maureen Williams and son-in-law Michael Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Velia Saenz Williams and Alyce (Frank) Lottman, sons Enrique Saenz and Alfred (Deborah) Saenz, daughter -in-law, Norma Saenz, and former son-in-law, Severiano Gonzales 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and dear friends, as well as her faithful dog, Duke.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Taylor, with burial to follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
