Georgia Horak

June 3, 1927 — April 8, 2017

Georgia Margaret Horak was born on June 3, 1927 near Granger, Texas to Joseph and Frances Rychlik. She was the third of eight children. On May 14, 1947 she married Joseph Henry Horak. They were united for 40 years until his death in 1988. The result of their union was three children, Joe, Jeanette, and Darwin. She passed out of this life on April 8, 2017.

After a series of jobs before marriage, she concentrated on her family. When she felt her children were old enough, she returned to the workforce first working for the Taylor Daily Press and then for many years at Austin Shoe Store. She managed the store until she retired to take care her husband, Joe. She became his caretaker for 10 years until his death. After his passing, she worked as a contractor for the Post Office as a custodian, cleaning both the Granger and Bartlett offices.

Georgia was a woman of great faith and was a life-long member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius parish were she not only worshipped but volunteered in a variety of ministries. Joe and Georgia were believers in a strong Catholic education and made sure her children, as well as others', had received that education by supporting SSCM's school. This continued through the time of her grandchildren and beyond until the closing of the school. She generously used her talents in whatever way needed by her parish family.

Known for her sewing skills, she enjoyed doing this until she was forced to give it up due to illness. She not only sewed for herself and her family, she has sewn wedding dresses and beauty pageant dresses for a variety of her family members.

Georgia was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Frances, her father, Joe, and her husband, Joe. She is survived by her sisters Dorothy Cuba, and Bernice Mikolaj, her brother Bennie, sisters-in-law, Wanda Rychlik JoAnn Rychlik, Joanne Horak, and brother-in-law Edward Jasek.

She has five grandchildren, Tritia Land and husband Geoff, Leigh Kelley and husband Adam, Tyler Henry and wife Christie, Kristen Brawner and husband Brad, and Aaren Horak. She also has nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their children.

Her family gratefully remembers her life, the life lessons she taught, and her fierce loyalties for what she believed in. They wish to express their praise and thanksgiving to God for the gift of her life in theirs. They are confident that she is enjoying her reward with her heavenly family, especially Jesus and Mary for whom she had a special devotion.
