Robert Hersho
Robert Michael Hersho, 84, of Austin, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2017 in Austin.
Robert was born in Mingo Junction, Ohio to Anna Bubin and Michael Hresho on January 18, 1933. His early years were spent in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He continued his education at Pitt, ultimately receiving degrees in dentistry and periodontology. Robert married Patricia Ann Gunnoude of Cheyenne, Wyoming on September 28, 1957 in McKeesport.
He was a member of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War as a dentist and was subsequently stationed in Japan, Okinawa and a variety of locations stateside. He retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel while at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin. Upon his retirement, he established a private periodontal practice.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife Patricia.
He is survived by a brother, Doug Hersho and wife, Hitomi of Houston, as well as twin daughters, Lynne Moss and husband Glenn of Austin, and Laura Rinderknecht and husband Jeff of Taylor. He leaves five grandchildren, including: Jennifer Vallone and husband Matt of Washington, D.C.; Ross Rinderknecht and wife Cassie of Taylor; Erin Rinderknecht of Cedar Park; Michaela Moss of Austin; and Sarah Moss of Austin. He is also survived by his special canine companion, Tigger, a rescue Scottish Terrier with a bold personality to match Robert’s.
A private service will be held at a later time. Memorials may be given to the Austin Dog Alliance Hounds for Heroes Program (www.austindogalliance.org).
