Mabell Killingsworth Sauls was born to Lee Killingsworth and Sallie Elizabeth Killingsworth on February 20, 1928 in Taylor, Texas. Growing up in the South Texas Community, she attended Blackshear Senior High School. The first in her family to attend college, Mabell studied at Bishop College (bachelors) and Prairie View A&M University (masters) in English Literature. After graduating she returned to Taylor and began her teaching career at O.L. Price High School, a segregated campus. As a result of integration Mabell was recruited to join the teaching staff of Taylor’s integrated public schools. There she was the runner-up for Teacher of the Year. After 33 years with Taylor ISD she retired in June of 1986.
In 1950, she was joined in holy matrimony to Ruben Sauls of Round Rock, Texas. To this union one daughter, Dietra R. Sauls was born in 1964.
Mabell came from a strong Christian family and accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She united with the First Baptist Church of Taylor, Texas. There she was an active member working in several ministries. When Mabell’s health began to decline, she relocated and lived in Austin, Texas with her eldest granddaughter. In Austin she joined Mt Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where Reverend Anthony Mays is Pastor.
Mabell entered eternal rest on February 26, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers (Lee Jr., Robert Louis, James Calton and Oscar). She leaves behind a legacy of love, her only daughter, Dietra R. Sauls, three grandchildren Tiffany Tillis Lewis (Shelton), Teramesia R. Brown and Tiana M.C. Robinson; and four great grandchildren, Calvin, Jaylen, Cayden, and Sydney.
She was “Aunt Mabell” to: Robert Louis, Reva, Elizabeth (Lisa), James Carl, Vicky, Kerry, April, Tammie, Octavia, Tina, William and Saladin. She also leaves behind several great nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring and devoted friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2017 from 6-8:00 P.M. at Providence Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Taylor with burial to follow at Taylor City Cemetery.
