Joe B. “Jake” Moldenhour, 94, of Taylor, passed away February 21, 2017, at his home. He was born to pioneer families on August 19, 1922, Joe Moldenhour and Clara (Bartlett) Moldenhour in Granger, Texas. Joe married his life-time love and companion, Violet (Rambo) Moldenhour on January 11, 1947. Joe and Violet recently celebrated 70 years of marriage with their family.
Mr. Moldenhour attended Granger schools and always helped at the family farm in Granger. He proudly served in the United States Coastguard during WWII. After serving his country, he worked for 41 years at Lone Star Gas Company as a Supervisor and welder. After retiring he returned to do what he loved doing which was farming.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Don Moldenhour and Foy “Doc” Moldenhour.
Joe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Violet, children, Debi (Kenneth) Mikulencak, Joe Ray (Michele) Moldenhour, Sr., and Jay (Sherri) Moldenhour. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Wendi (Randy) Baldwin, Brian (Christine) Mikulencak, Joe (Dawn) Moldenhour, Jr., Angie (Augie) Ramirez, Justin (Tia) Moldenhour, Myriah (Adam) Brady, Jason (Shelly) Moldenhour and Jeremy (Lauren) Moldenhour and his great-grandchildren, Lauryn Baldwin, Ryan Baldwin, Halley Mikulencak, Christopher Laurence, Hannah Laurence, Reid Ramirez, Luke Ramirez, Nicholas Treuter, Jackson Moldenhour, Seth Brady, Emily Brady, Brooklyn Moldenhour and Justin Vaden. Joe is also survived by his sister, Katy Tidwell and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge Meal on Wheels which has been a blessing to Joe and Violet. They have provided food and friendship to them over the last years. We also want to thank EMS, the Fire Department and the Police for all their help as well.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017, also at Providence Funeral Home. Pastor Jimmy Hejl and Pastor Billy Bob Cox will officiate. Burial to follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Granger.
Joe was a longtime member of the Taylor Brethren Church.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
