Reginald Rieger, 80, longtime resident of Taylor, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in Fort Worth.
He was born on February 17, 1936 to Fred Rieger and Lillie Poldrack Rieger, also of Taylor. Reginald graduated from Thrall High School in May, 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July of that year and achieved the rank of Sergeant before being discharged in July, 1957. While in the military, Reginald met Rosella Burk at Selfridge AFB outside of Detroit and they were married on September 22, 1956.
After leaving the Army, Reginald returned to Taylor and was a milkman for Superior Dairies for 4 years and then became a bread salesman for Butter Krust, a position he held for 21 years and for which he was best remembered around Taylor, Thrall and Thorndale. During this time he was also the foreman at Taylor Livestock Auction. He then worked for the State of Texas as a mail carrier for 10 years before retiring.
Reginald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four sisters, Odie Rieger Belicek, Lillie Mae Rieger Malm, Vera Grace Rieger and Latrelle Rieger Scott, a brother, Donald Rieger, two brothers-in-law, Alex Belicek and Melvin Scott and a former brother-in-law, Leon Malm, Sr. He is survived by his two sons, Jason Rieger and Rory L. Rieger (wife, Valerie), four grandchildren, Dillon Rieger, Nathan Rieger, Megan Rieger Gideon and Jarrod Rieger, a brother-in-law, Gilbert Burk (wife, Stephany) and sisters-in-law, Annette Strmiska Rieger and Idamae Burk Green (husband, Paul Green).
Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor on Friday, January 13 at 10:00 AM to be followed by a procession to Pleasant Retreat Cemetery in Thorndale and fellowship back in Taylor at Trinity Lutheran.
