Antonio Gonzales

Antonio Hernandez Gonzales, 89, of Taylor joined our Lord and Savior on Friday, December 2, 2016.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Providence Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Mass will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.

Antonio was born September 2, 1927 to Bernabe and Dolores (Hernandez) Gonzales in McDade, Texas. He was the oldest of 16 children. Antonio was a Pfc in the US Army and served as a Cannoneer. He also served as an Oblate Priest for 25 years. Antonio was a co-leader of the 1966 Starr County Farm Workers March that led to a minimum wage and better working conditions for migrant workers and the general public.

Antonio is preceded in death by his parents, Bernabe and Dolores Gonzales; son, Anthony Norman Gonzales; sisters and brother, Santos Olguin, Felipa Leal, Catarino Gonzales and Cecelia Perales.

He is survived by brothers and sisters, George Gonzales, Mary Lou Ubias and husband Lorenzo, Gumisindo Gonzales and wife Minerva, Johnny Gonzales and wife Rufina, Virginia Dominguez, Alfonso Gonzales and wife Mary, Andrew Gonzales and wife Macaria, Benito Gonzales and wife Mary Helen, Josie Olivarez and husband Solomon, Henry Gonzales and wife Rosie, Leticia Gamez and husband Arthur; children, Mark Anthony Esparza, Yvonne Ontiveros and fiancé Brian Hankinson, Benita Swinners, Jonathan Michael Gonzales and husband Luke Wangerin, Rosa Maria Gonzales, Daniel Jacob Gonzales and Pedro Brian Gonzales.
