Meta Miller Schneider

February 12, 1919 — November 6, 2016

Meta Miller Schneider passed away November 6, 2016, at the age of 97, following a brief illness.

Meta was born February 12, 1919 in Gerald, Texas to Elsie Kramer Miller and Rudolph Miller, the second of four children. Meta grew up in Waco, graduating from Waco High School. On January 14, 1943, she married Sgt. E. G. (Ed) Schneider in Waco. Meta and Ed had four children. They began life together in Waco, then moved to Irving and Terrell, Texas, and finally to Taylor in 1957.

Meta loved family, music, quilting, gardening, traveling, and DANCING! Meta’s family was most important to her. Sunday meals, family gatherings for holidays, birthdays and special occasions were all great importance and she remembered every one. She was very proud of her four children, eight grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She loved to serve the family meals that included vegetables grown from her garden.

For almost 50 years, she was the organist for St. Mary’s Church in Taylor, playing for the choir and for many weddings and funerals. In the late 50’s and early 60’s, she was the pianist for the musical variety shows presented at St. Mary’s School.

She was very active in several organizations associated with St. Mary’s Church and School, which included the Mother’s Club, St. Anne’s Altar Society and Catholic Daughter’s, holding officer positions in all over the years. She also belonged to the New Century Club, the Dance Club, and the V.F.W. Aux. 476 in Taylor. She worked for 20 years as a volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Meta loved to travel and kept a map of all the places she and Ed traveled over the years, making it to all of 48 of the 50 states, as well as several countries in Europe.

Quilting became a passion late in life, but one that Meta totally embraced, making close to 100 quilts for family and friends over the years, many without a pattern. Meta could look at a picture and figure out how to make the quilt without buying the pattern.

Dancing was another passion Meta loved. She and Ed went dancing every weekend and holiday and were well known on the dance floors around Taylor for their fun-loving attitude and love of dance.

Meta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Walter Miller. She is survived by her children, daughter Donna, sons, Mike (Marianne) Coupland, David (Brenda) Hutto, and Joe (Nadine) Round Rock, her sisters Kathryn McCoy of Pasadena, TX, Lilly Jones of Groves, TX, three nieces, two nephews, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the administration and staff, especially the nurses and CNA’s, of the S.P.J.S.T. Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care our Mother received.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Providence Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7pm.

Celebration of Life Mass will be 10am on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Taylor, TX, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery and a reception to follow.
