Leon Silva Garcia was born on September 2, 1944 in Thrall, Texas to Jim and Juanita Garcia. He grew up attending school at Thrall. At the age of 17, Leon enlisted in the United States Army. He later joined the Texas National Guard Army and retired after 34 years. On September 27, 1963, Leon married the greatest love of his life, Eloise Moreno "Mama". They were married for 53 years.
Leon was a very hard working man. He worked for Taylor Motor Company and owned & operated Leon's Body & Repair Shop for many years. Later, he proudly worked for the Taylor Fire Department. Leon also found a passion for working in Law Enforcement. He joined the Police Department working for several great cities in the surrounding area. As Leon neared retirement, he took over D & J's Boot Shop from his sons, Dennis and Jack Garcia. Leon had so much passion and dedication for his services to his jobs. He was a very honorable man!
Leon had a deep love for the outdoors. He spent his free time out in the country with his friends and family going fishing, hunting, and sitting around a camp fire enjoying great company and conversation.
Leon loved the Lord and served as a Deacon for the late Pastor Manuel Ochoa at Templo Ebenezer and later for Pastor Edward Barrera at Freedom Center Christian Church here in Taylor. His faith was strong. He was a great servant of God!
Leon is survived by his wife, Eloise Garcia, his daughter, Rosemary Garcia, his son Dennis Garcia, his daughter, Jackie Valdez, his son-in-law, Cedric Valdez, his grandchildren, Garrett Garcia, Gabbi Valdez, Nevaeh Valdez, and Tori Valdez, as well as by his brothers, Juan Garcia, Albert Garcia and wife Joanne, brother-in-law Gilbert Arellano and sisters, Santos Moreno and husband Roy, Julia Romo and husband Tony, and Rita Rangel, and many family members and friends.
