Roy Lloyd Bernhardt

On September 11, 2016, Roy Lloyd Bernhardt, 74, was taken into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was born in Taylor. He passed away on September 11, 2016, in Round Rock, TX.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Providence Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Mass/Service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 16, 2016 at Providence Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.

He was born on June 1,1942, the son of Roy Ernest Bernhardt and Pearl Nygard Bernhardt. He married Lrene Marie Poston on August 27, 1967. Roy graduated with a BS in Education on August 26, 1967. He was employed as a teacher of High School English for five years in Granger, TX. Roy then moved to teach High School English in Thrall, TX for 35 years.

His special interest included works of William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. He was very proud of his orange and white 1972 Chevrolet pickup which won several trophies and had the license plate “Dads 72”. He followed the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. Roy also enjoyed collecting John Deere memorabilia.

Roy is survived by his wife of 48 years Lrene Poston Bernhardt; his beloved daughter Lisa Marie Manning and son-in-law Jon Manning; three sisters and their families, Patricia Williams and husband Alan, Linda Sladek and husband Billy, and Nancy Scruggs and husband Glen; and aunt Margarie Springer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Pearl Bernhardt.
