John Frederick Hafernik, age 70 passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Veterans Administration Hospice in Temple, Texas.
Fred was born in Taylor, Texas on April 11, 1946 to Vernon and Mary Rose Hafernik. He met his wife, Morothy Raye Hollan in 1964 and they married in May of 1967.
He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Taylor, Texas and then attended the University of Texas.
He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 and he was stationed at Long Binh Vietnam from October 1967 to October 1968.
After he served his country he worked for the US Postal Service, he then became self-employed as a homebuilder and a remodeling contractor. He was an avid tool collector and has every tool imaginable. Later in life he learned to play the electric and acoustic guitar. He loved music and especially listening to live bands.
He enjoyed traveling to Army reunions and seeing his Vietnam buddies for the last few years.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Morothy Raye; son, Billy Joe Hafernik and wife Janna of Thrall, Texas; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Troy of Hutto, Texas; two grandchildren, Dustin Dismuke and Emily Hafernik; brother, Vernon Hafernik, and sister, Rose Marie Apel.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Lawrence Chapel Cemetery Association, c/o Kimberly Miller 109 Sentry Point Hutto, Texas 78634.
Visitation will be at Providence Funeral Home 807 Carlos Parker Blvd Taylor, TX on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 6-8 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Lawrence Chapel Cemetery 2800 County Rd. 473 Thrall, Texas 76578.
Pallbearers are Dustin Dismuke, Emily Hafernik, Billy Hafernik, Larry Zimmerhanzel, Lyndon Conlee, Bryan Miller and Cody Miller.
