Annie Svehlak Vanek

Annie Svehlak Vanek, age 87 of Granger passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Annie was born on July 24, 1928 in Granger, Texas to Annie Novak Svehlak and August Svehlak. She married Anton L. Vanek on May 12, 1947

She loved quilting and spending time with her family. Annie worked hard throughout her life, first by helping her husband on the farm. She then went to work at Will-O-Bell Nursing Home for 20 years. After that she worked at the Granger Sewing Factory, followed by Taylor Bedding and finally at S.P.J.S.T. Assisted living, where she retired.

She is preceded in death by her parents; August and Annie Svehlak; her husband, Anton L. Vanek; one grandson, Robert J. Cervenka; sisters, Lillian Cervenka and Mary Ochoa; brothers, August J. Svehlak and Jody Svehlak; brothers-in-law, Emil Cervenka, John J. Huff, August Kaderka, Tino Ochoa, Johnny Adamek, Julius Clarence, Edward Vanek, Sam Price, Victor Stefek and Wesley Blackmon; sisters-in-law, Virginia Vanek, Mildred Stefek and Ann Price; nephews, Brent Svehlak, August “Gus” and Gary Kaderka; great-nephew, Kalen Kaderka.

She is survived by daughters Anna Stojanik and husband Howard, Helen Cervenka and husband Richard; son, Gene Vanek and wife Teresa; grandchildren, Jennifer Fudge and husband Barney, Marc Vanek and wife Lisa, Kevin Vanek and wife Vickie and Scott Vanek; great-grandchildren, Riley and Brodie Fudge and Conner, Isabella, and Mason Vanek; and numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, Agnes Cervenka, Dorothy Adamek, Martha Huff, Alice Kubacak, Vlasta Kaderka; brother, Louis Svehlak; sisters-in-law, Chris Svehlak, Hortense Svehlak, Bernice and Lillie Vanek and Betty Blackmon; brother-in-law, Willie Cervenka.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 12, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Providence Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Corn Hill with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger.

Serving as pallbearers for Annie will be Barney Fudge, Marc, Scott and Kevin Vanek, James and Larry Svehlak.

The family would like to thank Will-O-Bell and the wonderful nurses in ICU at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
