Clarence Mckay Barnes, Jr.

Clarence McKay Barnes, Jr., 82, of Bluffton went to be with our Lord on January 13, 2016.

Clarence McKay Barnes, Jr. was born in Granger, TX on July 25, 1933 to Clarence and Louise Grossman Barnes. He graduated from Granger High School where he was active in Future Farmers of America (FFA) raising a prize Berkshire gilt, which he showed at the Houston Stock Show. He served in the Army for two years in Japan as an aircraft mechanic. He then went on to college receiving a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin. He had an extensive background in the construction industry: Vice President in charge of construction for Temple Associates, Construction Manager for Faulkner Construction, Project Manager for Algermon-Blair, and Superintendent for HC Beck contractors working on projects in Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Denver. On retirement in 2002, he felt his greatest accomplishment was as an architect engineer.

Clarence married Barbara Barron in Taylor, Texas on November 7, 1953 and they began their life together raising a son, Keith. Their only grandson, Aaron, was the joy of his life. Clarence and Barbara built and designed their home on Lake Buchanan. Clarence enjoyed hunting, fishing, and restoring classic cars. Among his numerous classic cars was his prize possession a 1972 Cutlass Supreme Convertible.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, of 62 years, son Keith Barnes of Bluffton, Cpl. Aaron Barnes USMC and wife Alyssa of 29 Palms, California, sister Margie Barnes Peschel M.D. of Fort Worth, Texas, brother Curtis Barnes of Tow, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 15, 2016 at Providence Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 3:00 P.M. at the Granger City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Highland Lake United Methodist Church Building Fund of Buchanan Dam or Friends of Lakeshore Library of Buchanan Dam.
