Bernice Agnes Vrabel

December 25, 1933 — December 16, 2015

Bernice Agnes Vrabel, 81 of Austin went home to celebrate her birthday with the Lord. She was born on Christmas day 1933 in Granger to Joe W. and Agnes (Strakos) Vrabel. Preceding her in death were her parents, older sisters Emilie Martinka of Bartlett, Henrietta Wolf, Frances Vrabel of Granger; also nephew Dennis Martinka, and great niece Amelia Wolf.

Bernice’s survivors include nephews: Laddie Martinka & wife Dale, Alan Martinka, David Martinka & wife Brenda, Daniel Wolf & wife Ellen, Michael Wolf; also best family friend Diane de Roulac. She also leaves behind 20 great nieces & nephews and 17 great-great nieces & nephews.

Bernice was a 1951 Granger High School graduate. After graduation she was employed by the Taylor County Commissioner, and then moving to Austin she worked for the State Insurance Board Water Commissioner Service. Bernice retired in 2002 after 40+ years of service for the Department of Human Services. Her many enjoyments included traveling, attending family reunions and giving service to the community.
She was a very active and dedicated member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Austin. Bernice was a member of the KJZT Society #93, Ladies Club, Altar Society, Flower Guild, DCCW, KJT Society #132, and wedding coordinator. In recognition of her service she was awarded the Stewardship Award by St. Louis Church.

Rosary will be recited on Sunday, December 20th at 5pm followed by visitation at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger. Mass will be Monday at 10am followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
