Marianne Hoppe Wood

August 6, 1937 — December 6, 2015

Marianne Hoppe Wood of Austin, Texas passed away early Sunday morning on December 6th at the age of 78--which is simply odd because she always hated mornings. Marianne was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 6, 1937 as second of five children to Edgar Hoppe and Novaleen Nyland.

In 1955, Marianne married Billy Frank Wood and had three children--Sherri, Frank Jr, and Dale - who loved her very much.

Marianne was well known for her love of animals, love of gambling, and love of living life to its fullest whenever possible. If there is a casino in heaven, you can be guaranteed that Marianne is sitting at third base, not splitting tens and emphatically teaching those that do the merits of not doing so, enjoying a cigarette, a glass of white wine, and making friends of the pit-boss and anyone sitting at the same table.

In Marianne's later years, she enjoyed her time on Lake Travis in the house that she loved, in the company of many friends but especially enjoying the company of her loving rescue Greyhound, Annie and best friend Hanzel, the Great Dane.

Marianne would find it obligatory to thank those who took care of her in the final years, including Nurse Case Management, and especially her caregiver, Aida Trevino.

Marianne was predeceased by her ex-husband Frank Wood, daughter Sherri, and sister Glenna. She is survived by her two sons Frank Jr. and Dale and their wives, Rue and Allison of San Antonio and Costa Rica; brothers Eddie and Len of Austin and Rockport, and sister Carol of Wimberley; three grandchildren, Range, Denise and Sam; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, December 12th. There will be a graveside service at 3pm at Salty Cemetery near Rockdale, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to greyhoundsunlimited.org or a charity of one's choice.
