Joe, “Grandpa”, “Pappy”, or “Pa”, was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In his later years he especially loved it when the “greats” came over to visit and crawl up in his lap.
He grew up on the family farm near Circleville and attended school at the Circleville School. Besides working on the farm, his first job was to help deliver the US Mail with Mr. Hemphill for which he earned fifty cents a week.
At the age of 21, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and proudly served his country as Staff Sargent with the 593rd Army Air Forces Base Unit as an Electrician during World War II.
After his honorable discharge from the military, he and Joyce moved to Taylor to join his father in the construction business. Quebe Construction and Supply Company operated for over 46 Years, building nursing homes, churches, clinics, and custom homes. He was a member of the American Legion Post #39 for 68 years.
He was an avid fisherman. He and “Deacon” Johnson, among others, knew the honey holes of Lake Buchanan and Falcon Lake. Joe loved spending time on the water fishing with all his family. He could also be found spending time with his buddies around the domino table. He never met a stranger and always had a good time.
Joe was a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church, Leroy Sigle’s Sunday school class, and singing in the church choir. He loved God, his country, and his family.
Joe and Joyce were active members of the Taylor Dance Club, where they sat on the Board of Directors and enjoyed dancing and dining with their many friends.
