Margaret Lanell “Nell” Reeves Poldrack, age 82, of Coupland, passed away May 24, 2015. She was born June 7, 1932 in Taylor to Lucious Elmer and Minnie Lillian (Keese) Reeves.
She attended Taylor High School and graduated in 1949. On November 3, 1951, she married Melvin Leon Poldrack at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Rectory in Taylor and they celebrated their 63rd anniversary last November.
She devoted her life to her four children Denney Loy, Terry Lon, Kandice Jill and Kimery Gaye, to her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and to her extended family. Lanell was a homemaker and was known for her creative sewing skills and her ability to copy any design she saw and make it for herself, her husband, her kids and grandkids, her sisters and their children, her friends, and even for friends of her children. She was also an active participant in the family business, Poldrack Grain and Cattle, keeping the books, answering phones, shuttling employees between the various farms, and waiting on customers for many years. She never experienced a true empty nest as she cared for her oldest son Denney at home and took him daily to the Williamson County Activity Center for many years. Nell enjoyed other hobbies such as painting pictures, particularly contemporary, and these also were shared with her family. She loved to watch tennis which started with, but didn’t end with, watching her youngest daughter play in High School. She also loved to travel and frequently traveled with her daughters on their business trips. Lanell was an active member of St. Peter’s Church of Coupland for more than 60 years teaching Sunday School when her children were young, participating in Pastor’s Aid, folding newsletters and where ever else she was called upon. She also participated in a 42 club playing dominoes with 8 other ladies that she enjoyed immensely.
The light of her life was her grandchildren and she kept many of them either full time or part of the time so her children could have careers and know that their children were well cared for. Lanell was also a great cook and never closed down her kitchen until the Alzheimer’s made it necessary. Every child and grandchild knew that she would always have an extra seat at the table available for them and their friends or she would open up the kitchen just for them and the food, especially the desserts, were wonderful. Lanell loved her desserts!
She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings including her brother, Fay Reeves and her sisters, Grace DeWolfe and Hazel Preusse, many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and three nephews.
Lanell is survived by her husband Melvin, and her two sons, Denney Poldrack, Terry Poldrack and wife Martha and her two daughters, Kandice Samuelson, Kimery Poldrack and partner Erin Barber, and her five grandchildren, Hunter Poldrack and wife Jennifer, Heather Shuttles and husband Robby, Tiffany Samuelson, and Evan and Sawyer Poldrack, and her four great-grandchildren Aubrey and Haydon Shuttles, Krista and Remington Poldrack, and brother-in-law, Leroy Poldrack, sisters-in law, Lois Lenz and Billie Reeves and numerous nephews and nieces.
