Joe Daniel Shirocky

Joe Daniel, (J.D.) Shirocky, 87, of Granger, passed on to his Heavenly Father April 8, 2015. He was born on March 12, 1928 to Louis and Mary Shirocky.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Shirocky, his children, Mitchell Shirocky and wife, Patsy; Lorna Shirocky Warnke; Gregory Shirocky and wife, Flora; Alan Shirocky and wife Anne, Dean Shirocky and wife June, and Shelly Shirocky, all of Granger.
He was loved by his grandchildren, Bradley Shirocky, Maggie Shirocky Smith, Alana Shirocky Tomczyszyn, and husband, David, Lindsey Shirocky, Andrea Shirocky, Adam Shirocky, and wife, Tawnya, Cade Shirocky and Conor Shirocky. He was blessed to have three great-grandchildren, Julianna Smith, Grayson Smith and Conley Tomczyszyn.

He is also survived by his sisters, Louise Rozacky and Margaret Kerlin, both of Granger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Shirocky, a sister, Vlasta Volcik, brothers, Louis Shirocky, Jr. and Alvin (Mike) Shirocky.

J.D. was a life-long member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, and SPJST. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. He grew up on a farm and made farming his life-long career. J.D. enjoyed traveling to Louisiana for gambling trips, Czech music and riding out to check on the crops and cattle.

Visitation will be 6-8pm with a rosary at 7pm, Thursday, April 9 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.

Celebration of Life Mass will be 1:30pm, Friday, April 10 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with the Very Rev. Chris Ferrer officiating, assisted by Deacon John Thornton. Burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Granger.
