Johnnie V. Kurtin, 85, of Granger, passed on to his Heavenly Father on April 1, 2015, in Bartlett. John was born to Joseph and Agnes (Michalek) Kurtin on February 8, 1930 in Granger.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Providence Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with the Very Rev. Chris Ferrer officiating. Burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Granger.

John was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing dominoes and tarocks. Scratching lotto tickets and driving around with his brother Laddie checking the local crops were other favorite hobbies. Czech music (especially Joe Patek) was dear to his heart.

John was a lifelong member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, also a member of the KJT (75 years plus), a charter member of Granger Knights of Columbus, and a former director of the Blackland COOP. He attended catholic grade school in Granger.

John is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, Frank, Tony, and Laddie; sisters, Frances Kurtin, Mary Walker, and Margie Hajda; nephew, Johnny Walker, and great-niece, Deborah Rose Hajda.

Survivors include his sisters, Edith Kurtin and Agnes (Babs) Kurtin of Granger; brother-in-law, V.J. Hajda, sister-in-law, Lydia Kurtin, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorial may be made to: SS Cyril & Methodius Church Renovation Project, Mass intentions for John, or their favorite charity.
