Juaquina Garcia Arellano of Granger, Texas was called home to heaven with her daughter, Isabel, on March 24, 2015 at the age of 84.
Juaquina was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Arellano Sr. and her daughter, Isabel Arellano Luna. Juaquina is survived by her children, son in law Harold Luna, Elena Rodriguez and husband Jorge, Adela Cortinas, Jesus Arellano and wife Linda, Sofia Resa and husband Arturo, Carlos Arellano and wife Amanda, Jose Arellano Jr. and wife Nora, Monica Quintanilla and husband Richard, Lucia Arellano and husband Noe Cortez, 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Juaquina was born on August 16, 1930 in the Lawrence Chapel area of Texas to Santiago Garcia Sr. and Juanita Silva Garcia. Juaquina married Jose Arellano, her sweetheart that she met year after year at the jamaicas of the Virgen de Guadalupe Church. Juaquina and Jose were married on January 1, 1950 in Taylor, Texas. After living briefly with Jose’s parents, Isabel and Antonio Arellano in New Sweden, Jose and Juaquina moved to Wilson, Texas where they lived for two years. They then relocated to Friendship, Texas east of Granger. They resided in Friendship from 1952 to 1959. In 1959 Juaquina and Jose relocated to the west of Granger where she resided from 1959-2009 with her family.
Juaquina was a loving and devoted wife and mother of nine children. Juaquina always put others’ needs before her own. Juaquina was a wonderful cook who was always ready to feed anyone as soon as they walked in the door, no matter the hour. She was a gifted seamstress and clothed all her children. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was a beautiful person with a heart of gold.
Juaquina resided at the Granger Villa from 2009 until 2015. Her daughter Isabel was named “girl Friday” by the villa staff because of her weekly visitation commitment to her mother. Isabel’s Friday evenings were spent talking to her mom when they would often imagine taking trips on the Amtrak train that they would see pass by. Isabel became ill and had not been able to visit her mother since attending her 84th birthday party in August. They missed each other so much that they decided that they would take their trip to heaven together even though neither knew the other was gravely ill. Isabel passed away on Monday and just a little over 12 hours later mom joined her in heaven. On Saturday, one of the last things Isabel said was “Mom don’t leave me”. She then told her family how she had seen mom and that she looked beautiful and was wearing a crown. Since they were so emotionally connected, a double rosary and funeral will take place at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger,Texas . The rosary service will be Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, March 27 at 10:30am. The interment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
