Leroy Walter Freels

Leroy W. Freels, 80, of Taylor, died Monday, January 19, 2015 in a Temple hospital.

Leroy was a lifelong resident of Williamson County, a 1953 graduate of Taylor High School, and a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor.

He was proud to be a veteran serving in the United States Army, The National Guard, and the Texas State Guard.

He was in the retail business in Taylor throughout his life. Many may have crossed paths with him during his 32 years at Schwenker Pharmacy in Taylor. After his retirement, he continued to meet and greet folks in his duties at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor for almost 10 years.

In earlier days he would never pass up an opportunity for a fishing trip, especially a crappie excursion to Lake Granger with his numerous fishing companions. You could always find him spending time with family and close friends or conquering some odd job or duty around the church.

Those that knew him will remember his caring nature, his love for his wife, and the gleam in his eye for how proud he was of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, of nearly 54 years, Frances Freels, of Taylor. A son, Kevin, and wife, Gina, of Midlothian and two grandchildren, Macy and Grant Freels.

Also surviving is a sister, Velma and husband Ted Ziehe of Austin, brother, Jim and wife Nancy Freels of Buda and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, January 23, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial to follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.
