Bernice Jeanette Weise

Bernice Jeanette (Becker) Weise, 86, of Thorndale TX passed away on January 14, 2015.

Bernice was born August 29, 1928 to George and Frieda Becker in Thorndale TX. She was one of nine children born to George and Frieda.

Bernice grew up in Thorndale where she attended elementary school and eventually met her husband Herbert Weise. Later they moved to Austin TX where Herbert and Bernice became long-time members of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Bernice helped provide for the family by working a number of jobs including providing a clothes ironing service and running an in-home daycare. But her most cherished job, and the one from which she retired, was working in the cafeteria at IBM Austin where she could put her cooking skills on display and where she made many friends. After Herbert’s death in Feb. 1993 and her son Len’s death in Feb. 2000 Bernice moved back to Thorndale and built a house on their piece of property affectionately known to the family and many friends simply as “The Land”. She hosted many parties there including the traditional Christmas Eve “after-church” party. Thorndale was home and she absolutely loved her family and all of her friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, son Len, brothers James Becker, Curtis Becker and Gilbert Becker, and sister Helen Boatright.

Bernice is survived by her son Neil Weise and wife Sylvia, brothers Roy Becker and Erwin Becker, sisters Ruby Krause and Ila Mae Jansky, grandchildren David Weise and wife AnnaMarie and Stacey (Weise) Lerma and husband Thomas, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Thorndale TX.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor TX. Service will be held 10 a.m. Monday Jaunuary 19, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale TX.
