Nell Poe

Nell Lavinia Brewster Poe, aged 86, of Thorndale, was called home by her Heavenly Father on October 25, 2014. Nell was born on March 9th, 1928 in Alexandria, Louisiana to Otis Leon Brewster and Ruby Alma Givens Brewster. She was the oldest daughter of twelve children. Nell was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a devout Christian and very firm in her beliefs. She was a part of the Thorndale community for over 44 years. Nell and her late husband, Roy H. Poe Jr., owned and operated Poe & Sons Polled Hereford Ranch for many years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her gardens. She loved spending time with her family and tending to her grandchildren. She had a love for yard sales and was lovingly called the Garage Sale Queen by her family. She was an exceptional cook and loved to cook for her family, especially during the holidays. She will always be remembered for her fine southern cooking and delicious desserts. She had a beautiful, kind soul and a loving and generous heart. She never met a stranger and never hesitated to help those in need. She touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Lightsey and husband Charlie of Farmville, Louisiana, Betty R. Unnasch of Thorndale, Sandra Webster and husband Michael of Dime Box, and son Stephen Smith and wife Patricia of Thorndale, and one sister, Margie Sullivan of St. Stevens Alabama. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son James David Smith, two sisters, Doris Lucille Brewster, and Ruby Nadine Walters, eight brothers, Earl Brewster, J.L. Brewster, Eugene Brewster, Charles Brewster, Clyde Brewster, Alex Brewster, and Vernon Brewster, one grandchild, and four great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to the staff of Heartstone Nursing Facility in Round Rock, TX for the exceptional care Nell received.

Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Providence Funeral Home Chapel. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 A.M., November 1, 2014 at Providence Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at the Thorndale City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Nell Poe Memorial Fund under La Nell Deary, at Rockdale Federal Credit Union (Thorndale Branch) and City National Bank in Taylor
